Jinhee Lee our new Young Adult (YA) librarian

Jinhee started her career with the library as a clerk
while she was going to school. She comes to us from Korea
via San Diego, where she lived with her parents. Youth
Librarian Lee now lives in Hollywood with her husband, two dogs, a Yorkshire terrier, named Dalsoon and a Maltese, named Heennoon (Snow White) in Korean.

She says "I am happy to be at WIL, I am rearranging YA materials and trying to set up programs and Volunteer groups for the Library.

I am looking forward to meeting our patrons. The next time you drop by, please look for me
and say hi."

Kelley Burks Senior Librarian at Washington Irving Branch Library

We are most pleased to welcome Kelley to the Washington Irving Branch Library (WIL). Growing up near Adams and Arlington, she is very familiar with our area’s history. Kelley has been with the Los Angeles Library system for nearly 20 years and most recently, worked at the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library where she was a Young Adult (YA) librarian working with young people in grades 6-12 . Kelley lives in the San Fernando Valley, where she used to own a horse. She still enjoys horseback riding. She shares her home with Rag Muffin, her Chow mix dog. Kelley has put on her running shoes for this position. She has represented WIL at the neighborhood watch meeting, helped to fill librarian vacancies, begun a remix of our book collection ( see the new Hot Off the Press collection}, met most of the “Friends” , and went to faculty meetings where she acted in place of our Children’s librarian. Thank you, Kelley, for your commitment to Washington Irving.

Phil Ranelin’s “WHO IS ERIC DOLPHY?

This is the first of eight Jazz Appreciation Workshops by master trombonist Phil Ranelin. This workshop will feature memorabilia, recordings, videos and oral histories from friends, fans and fellow musicians of the legendary multi-reed virtuoso, Eric Dolphy, born in Los Angeles on June 20th (1928), which has been declared Eric Dolphy Day, henceforth, throughout the City and County of Los Angeles and throughout the State of California. The workshop will take place:

This Jazz Appreciation Workshop is free and open to the public and is made possible in part by a Cultural Arts Grant from the City of Los Angeles, Department of Cultural Affairs’ Artist-In-Residence 2006-2007 Program. Eloise Logan, Managing Librarian, Retiring

Eloise Logan, our Senior Librarian will be leaving us this summer for a well deserved retirement. She has agreed to continue her contributions to the Friends of Washington Irving as a Friends Board member. Eloise has always worked to make the Library truly part of the Community, and our Community truly part of the library. We look forward to her continuing to lend us her expertise and motivation in the coming months and years. We are hopeful that her replacement as Senior Managing Librarian will have the kind of sensitivity to our diverse community that has made Eloise Logan so loved by all of us.

If it is open, (the first door on your right in the lobby as you enter) please come in and browse. Books, some rare, some not, are sold to the public to raise finds for programs and for gifts to the library.
